Resound: verb /rɪˈzaʊnd/ To fill or echo throughout a space.

Dance Theatre • Northern Made

Resound began developing their theatrical language in 2022. Through exploration, experimentation and play, Resound has become our vessel for a multi-disciplinary approach to storytelling. Our work is born through motion and is always evolving. We inhabit the grey area between theatre and dance, dream and reality; actively searching to blur these borders. We are a collective of artists that research a personal and authentic connection to the world around us and investigate our fullest means of expression through movement, live music, voice and communion.

We believe that theatre is a process, our root to truth.

Since founding the company, Resound has built a strong track record of support and commissions from Arts Council England, Tees Dance, Sheffield Theatres, Stockton ARC, Darlington Hippodrome, University of Sheffield, University of Essex and Investing in Children.

Matty Muir

I’m a director, teacher, rambler and dancer.
I love telling stories. It’s been a pillar of mine since childhood and was the bedrock for me becoming a theatre-maker. I also live to move, this is is me at my happiest. Whether it’s climbing trees or dancing in the studio, i’m always searching for the connection to what makes me feel alive, to what make us human. I’m grateful to have found what channels my energy and seek to share that passion with the world around me.

Elliot Mann

I’m a mover, sound maker, theatre alchemist, adventure seeker, nature dweller and lover of communion centered around food, soundsystems and storytelling. My creative life is ever transforming as I move through projects and seasons blending my various creative expressions, always seeking new ways to tell stories. I try my hand at anything which brings our stories and dreams into creation; most recently this has manifested in the designing and building of sets and instruments for Resound projects. My creative drive stems from the conversation between my dreams and daily life. By investigating and retelling the experiences that move me, I hope to unlock in others a curiosity and wonderment for the human experience.

I’m a theatre maker with a background in physical practice and performance. Why do I make theatre? I remember and sometimes can touch a vividness that I associate with childhood and dreams. The theatre that I make is an homage to that feeling. I am on a quest to see if it can be found somewhere between the performers, the lights, the sound, the creative choices and the audience.
